Product Description

Betrayal at House on the Hill

Betrayal at House on the Hill quickly builds suspense and excitement as players explore a haunted mansion of their own design, encountering spirits and frightening omens that foretell their fate. With an estimated one hour playing time, Betrayal at House on the Hill is ideal for parties, family gatherings or casual fun with friends. Betrayal at House on the Hill is a tile game that allows players to build their own haunted house room by room, tile by tile, creating a new thrilling game board every time. The game is designed for three to six people, each of whom plays one of six possible characters. Secretly, one of the characters betrays the rest of the party, and the innocent members of the party must defeat the traitor in their midst before it’s too late! Betrayal at House on the Hill will appeal to any game player who enjoys a fun, suspenseful, and strategic game. Betrayal at House on the Hill includes detailed game pieces, including character cards, pre-painted plastic figures, and special tokens, all of which help create a spooky atmosphere and streamline game play.

Customer Reviews

As a major horror-film buff, this game was a must-get for me back when I first got into tabletop gaming. The Betrayer mechanic is awesome, as well as the variable scenarios. Unfortunately those scenarios can be a double-edged sword. Some of them have godsawful mechanics that don't lend themselves very well to having fun. Fortunately even the worst of them tend to have a fun arc to their narratives. And when they're great, they're truly a lot of fun. If you dig horror or b-movies, kind of a no-brainer. Though at this point you may want to wait until the upcoming Legacy iteration.

Betrayal is a game played in two phases. On the first part you're just going around the house exploring, getting items and events. Then suddenly everything changes. Someone or something is revealed as the traitor and all rules drastically change. Depending on different factors, a scenario will be chosen which will explain the rules to everyone. Lots of them are betrayer vs rest, but not all. The game is fun to play with at least 3 players and you can never know what to expect from the 50 scenarios that come with the base game. It's not a competitive game which you want to play to win, rather a fun, wild experience, given that most games are inbalanced. Despite this I definitely recommend this game to people looking for a good "storytelling" game, in which you can't really be the master of you destiny, but who rather want to have a laugh while being beaten by a little girl turned into an OP tentacle monster

Don't go into this game looking for an ultimate competitive experience. Rather, treat as a storytelling game and you won't be disappointed. Any one of the haunts can be imbalanced given the right combination of factors, so if you're looking for a competitive gaming experience look elsewhere. This is best played with spooky music and flickering lights.
